About us

The Rowhedge Medical Practice is the main surgery for the Rowhedge and University Medical Practice.

The surgery is staffed by doctors who work at both surgeries, and is staffed by a full team of receptionists, dispensers, nurses, health care assistant, secretary, and is managed by our practice manager and business manager.

Our receptionist like to ensure that the correct appointment is booked for each patient, so they may ask a few basic details to ensure you are booked with the most appropriate health care professional.

We have 5 doctors who work at both sites, and patients are able to make appointments with any of the doctors as the practice does not run personal lists.

Our healthcare assistants offers a wide range of services, including phlebotomy (blood tests), new patient medicals, health checks and lifestyle clinics.

Armed Forces Veteran Friendly Accredited GP practice

We are an Armed Forces veteran friendly accredited GP practice.

This means that, as part of the health commitments of the Armed Forces Covenant, we have a dedicated clinician who has a specialist knowledge of military related health conditions and veteran specific health services. This is important in helping ex-forces to get the best care and treatment.

If you are ex-forces, please let your GP know to help ensure you are getting the best possible care.

University Health Centre

The University Health Centre is based on the campus at the University of Essex.

It is the branch surgery of the Rowhedge Medical practice, and as such is staffed by the doctors who work at both practices. The Health Centre is staffed by a full complement of receptionists, nurses, nurse practitioners, healthcare assistant and secretary and can cater for all primary care needs of the students.

For further details of services provide, student advice, registration session details and more please visit our student information page.

We try to make our waiting room friendly and relaxing, with information boards with posters to read, practice newsletter and our “call board” which not only tells you when it is your turn to see the doctor or nurse, and which room to go to.
